I'm a 5'7 male and I've just turned 17. I was just wondering how to tell whether I've finished growing or not. My voice has gone deeper but still not as deep as some of the men I see around and I still haven't got any hair under my arm pits and don't need to shave (although I do), is it normal at this age? I'm a bit concerned as I've been browsing around and some have said boys stop growing at 17-18 while others have said boys stop growing at 21 or even later. Have I finished going through puberty yet and is there any chance I'd grow another 3-4 inches? Your input and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Like you've heard many males continue growing untill they're 21 or even older on some occasions, and seeing as you haven't got any facial or under arm hair I'd say there's a good chance that you'll have a few more growth spurts, but everyone's different, so you never know. My boyfriend, for instance didn't start getting facial hair untill he was eightteen and grew about two more inches by the time he was 20. Some males hit major growth spurts towards the end of puberty and grow as much as five or so inches right before they stop growing all together other males may be as tall as they're going to get long before they get the slightest bit of facial hair. Take a look at when you're dad, uncles, and grandfathers started and stoped growning, how tall your parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents are, and that'll give you a good idea. Also, the best way to tell when you're completely finnished with puberty is when your wisdom teeth fully come in.

Varies depending on your genetics. I was shaving a full beard at your age and had some chest hair, but started having to shave at 13. My brotherinlaws did not shave until they were 17 or 18, and really did not grow much until about then--then grew almost a foot by the time they were 19. Fair skinned guys seem to mature slower than dark skinned guys, who also have more hair anyway. Again, genetics.
Best way to find out--check with your dad, uncles on both sides, first cousins that are male, if any. See when they started really shaving or finished growing. Also remember that not all guys grow facial hair, or may only grow small spotty patches, actually this is quite regular.

the end of growth can arrive anywhere between the ages of 18-20. you still have time to grow.
it might be beneficial to see an endocronologist. he/she can make the correct daignosis and, if necessary, provide you with
medication to bolster the growing process. if you're worried, there is help!
