i was popular in high school and i thought it was incredibly overrated. I wasn't a superjock or anything, I just played soccer and I was myself. I was weird, I did weird things, but most of the time people just laughed. Just be yourself, and even if you're not "popular" you'll find people that like you and close friends are a lot better than 100 friends that barely know who you are..trust me, I've had it both ways and I'd rather take the few close friends.

Popularity does not matter at all. You don't need to impress anyone at school. Just make lots of friends and be outgoing! :] You will catch your friends' attention.

Popularity matters in politics, but in school not really. If you want to impress, learn, be an expert in something.
Best wishes!

No - being popular does not matter. Once you're out of high-school popularity means absolutely nothing.
