Christmas has become horribly commercialized. And I will admit that I am guilty of feeding into it. It is very easy to get caught up in it. I honestly do not need anything, and although I appreciate the gifts that people have given to me, I would not be disturbed if I was not given many gifts. But I do love to give, and I know that I go way overboard when it comes to shopping.
Saying that, I do wish we could get back Christmas the way it was when I was a child. We would receive more modest and often homemade gifts. Each of us may receive one or two store bought gifts....but the knitted mittens and scarfs were also cherished. I also remember when we actually hung real socks on the mantel for Santa to fill.....they would be my Dads socks...and they would magically be filled with fruit, nuts and candy....it was wonderful! Ahhhhhhhh those good ole days...I have dated myself !

I think Christmas is over commertialized. You are right Christmas is really about Jesus' birth. In my family we set a limit of much to spend on eachother (like $10). Our main celebration though is a simple cake that says Happy Birthday Jesus, and we actually sing happy birthday to Him.

There is the spiritual side of Christmas which is why we celebrate it at all. And there is the 'party' side of it where we
celebrate it in different fashions. Depending on your own
drive and love for the season you might want it to last longer. I always do, but I keep it in line with what Christmas is all about.
Love, sharing, caring and if we can keep that going, what is bad about that. Is it what Christ taught us!!
But Chistmas will deliver to us only what we put into it ourselves.
If your Christmas was too commercail, change it for next year.
If you need more of it, make it last longer with lots of feeling.
Just keep the message clear and strong.

I think that much to many of our children forget that Christmases main purpose is to bring together family and friends and to feel the magic of friends and family all being together. It's not to cash in and show off who got what for Christmas.
