It was created, in retrospect, to do what Tyler or Brad Pitt/Edward Norton’s character always wanted- to let out aggression, destruction of society, material positions and politics-these things all reflect the exploding of his own apartment and directly contrast his life as it was before Tyler came into the picture. If you enjoy reading, the book is great and explains in more detail. I suggest seeing the movie Seven, by the same director and writers, very well done. Fight Club is great too but when you see it a couple more times you start to get the hang of it.

Some of my favorite quotes are from Fight Club:
“You are not your job. You are not the money in your bank account. You are not the car you drive. You are not how much money is in your wallet. You are not your ******* khakis. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.”

”Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.”

“You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else.”

They started it because Edward Norton's character was psychotic. Totally hot, but, psycho. He wanted to wreak havoc on the city and he did. He totally turns me on!
