I was very shy when I was much younger but I am no longer. You just have to realize that what you have to say is important. You should make a pledge that you will ask at least one question when you are in a group setting. Just one -- try it. Once you try this (make sure that the question is relevant to the conversation) it will be easier to jump in and have full conversations with ppl. Also, remember to speak up and don't whine when speaking up or no one will listen to you. Speaking in a medium range commands respect and promotes confidence.

It can be difficult because you may be overthinking about what people are thinking or how they will respond to you. But basically all you can without coming off as a goof is to be yourself. Consider your relationships perhaps with long term friends or family where you aren't so shy. There is some aspect of your personality that attracts them to you. Perhaps your're funny or really smart. Be that person and people will reflect the same towards you. You can start by asking a simple question about any subject that comes to mind..a television show, an exam, an upcoming dance, fashion, make-up, hair. It's normal for people to feel shy and think they are all alone. But believe me there are people out there that are just as shy as you are looking for new friends and wanting to break out of their shell. Just do it and don't look back.

There is nothing wrong with being shy. Be who you are and not what you think others want you to be. Talk when you feel that you have valuable input to add to a conversation. So many girls talk just to hear their heads rattle and so they can be the center of attention and have no clue what they are even talking about.

talk to one person sitting beside you in public vehicles and places
-greet him/her
-ask his or her name (give your name of course)
-then age
try to get through him/ her... see what you know about what he or she knows and give some add-ons
and if you don't have any idea of what she's or he's saying just try to look like you're being informed ^_^'

Be a good listener. Find something in common and go from there.
