I work at a public library service desk.

Normally, I'm pretty good about calling in sick. Maybe once a month. Maybe.

About two weeks ago, I went into work. Came home sick. Called in the next day sick. I was sick then, but not as bad as this time...

Now this past Thursday, I definitely was down with flu-like symptoms. Called in Thursday. My days off are Friday and Saturday. Library was closed Sunday and Monday (today) for the holiday. Over the weekend, I had been having a fever for atleast three of those days. Coughing as well. Runny nose. The whole mess.

Now I'm due back to work tomorrow, but I have this enormous fever sore on my lip that's extremely visible. I'm still coughing and a bit congested, but not horrible.

How do I tell my boss in the morning? Or do you think I should go in and be sent home? What if the fever sore doesn't go away for another day or two?

Honestly, I'd rather get back to work. Hate being home sick.

Thanks in advance.

For the record: I have plenty of sick hours left. About 60 or so. So that's not the problem.

Another thing is, if I don't come in, we're going to be on bare-bones schedule...

Hmm, I think you call in sick a lot... You get sick every month? Have you gotten your flu shot? Well, if your work really needs you, then I think you should go. Try to make it at work and see how it goes.

If you are extremely bad and feel terrible, and can honestly risk the sick day, use it, so you won't get others sick and you won't feel worse. But if you don't really feel bad enough then you should go.

I'm sorry you're feeling bad though and good luck. Hope you had a happy new year! Get well soon. :]

If you're sick, by all means, stay at home and tell your boss that you're sick.

As a general rule, I still go to work if my sickness is not contagious and the pain/bad feeling can be controlled by pain killers.

call your boss tonight, explain whats up ~ that way he/she knows in advance and can find someone to cover you. Or you can go into work tomorrow looking all sickly with a feverblister n all and hope they send you home....
if your that sick~ no one will want to catch it from you and youre contageous if you have a fever....

If you can afford taking the sickdays, you should stay home. There is no reason getting others sick too. If you do not have sick days available, then you are risking your job. If youre sick - youre sick!

It sounds like you need to take the time to heal and be well enough to perform your job well. Once a month does sound excessive, if your boss hasn't had a problem with it so far, I would take the time necessary to get better.

Need to be careful about using sick days when you're not "really" that sick...it's like the little boy who cried wolf.
