The longest NBA game was a 6 overtime snoozefest (78 game minutes) that was played on January 6, 1951. The game took place three years before the 24 second shot clock was instituted, so the final score was only 75-73. Only 23 shots were taken, and after the opening tap of each overtime, the team would just dribble the ball around, playing keep-away and looking around, hoping to pass the ball for the best shot.
