Better Student. First thing to do is to develop an INTEREST in the subjects ur learning. Thats quite easy ... for physics.. u can just read about Einstein, Newton etc.. think about how they discovered these things... etc. and so it goes on.
Next thing is to know HOW TO STUDY This is a really important factor. Studying is not keeping everything in the mind. Its about UNDERSTANDING. Get the help of ur teacher or friend.. but, you should be able to understand each and everything ur learning. If you try to byheart something without understanding, u'll never learn(some subjects you may find nothing to understand.. but atleast visualize it). Once you have understood the things, next things is MEMORY. MEMORY works only if you have interest, if u understand etc. Try something like Mind Mapping - this is something exceptionally good. Once you get used to the style of mind mapping... its just too easy to remember. There are many websites.. search or try this http://www.peterussell.com/mindmaps/mindmap.html
Another things is PREPARATION. Before you start to study... close your eyes... just free yourself from distraction... AFFIRM to urself that u'll be studying for 20mins or sumthing & u'll do it well. Affirmations are extremely powerful - they are a sort of hypnosis. Before you open your eyes... just gently touch the top-back part of your head (don
t keep on touchin)& concentrate on that sensation and feel as though a tangerine is floating over there. Open your eyes slowly... u'll notice that u have more concentration & readin speed.
You can also try some Speed Reading (search the net) for improving your reading speed... but its just optional - but there are gains.
{ For preparation.. u can listen to a tape called "personal genius" from learning strategies. Its a lovely thing- helps a lot}
Also... Believe in urself & say +ve things to urself...Never say anything bad to urself - it'll program ur mind to believe it.. if u say u are very bad at studyin - ur mind will try to be that - again, hypnosis.
Its also ideal to take 5 minutes break between 20 minute studyin sessions... - during the break, do something light so that u can regain ur concentration back.
& last of all.... NEVER take studying as a burden.. if u study feeling that its a burden, then u'll not do well.. Take it lightly and cooly.. do it nicely.

Being a good listener is an easy job... the most intelligent people don't speak much.. they listen. If you listen & watch you can gain a lot of information about the other person. Body language(search the net) is something really cool to observe & also the tone of the voice. What everyone wants is a some to listen to them.. if u do that.. u'll be a lovly friend of theirs.

Have a nice day.

Don't procrastinate. Take good notes, and make arrangments to get your work done in a timely manner. Don't waste time and put off projects that might require detailed research, etc. Make sure you have all your materials - paper, pens, computer/inkjets, maps, good dictionaries, thesaurus, whatever your studies require. Make sure you set aside several HOURS reserved for study only. Then, time for 'reading' and partying last. (smle) Don't forget you need your sleep. Get enough. I can't tell you how many hours -everyone is different, but I found that I worked better in college not having morning classes. Afternoon and evening classes were better for me and contained older students who worked. I was able to grab concepts better. The class was more mature. I also found that the evening classes had the greater number of 'credits' and I was able to complete my studies in 4 years - while some others had to attend 5 to get all their credits. Find personal time for you. Exercise and have fun too. If you have to work, try to schedule your work hours in a way that will not conflict with your sleep and study and classes. I know that can be hard, but it can be done.

Take good notes.

You won't always be blessed with a good teacher (on the subject matter at hand, anyway). Sometimes you'll draw a teacher whose purpose it is to teach you to drop a course (you can do that in college).

Observe body language.

By better student, it's hard to tell if you mean you learn more or please the professor better. Some are more open minded than others. If you're pursuing a degree, be prepared for profs that just want their own material handed back to them (or who are working their classes for dissertation material)

Most of all, Enjoy!

To be a better student? Don't just listen all the time. Ask questions. Asking questions requires you to think. Have an opinion that is based on good knowledge, then discuss things with your teacher and don't back down if you believe you are right. A good teacher wants his students to be active and challenge him, as long as you do it repectfully.

Student: decide what you want to learn, how it will affect your future, and remain open minded to things that you didn't know you wanted to learn... studying and learning is not work at all, if you love what you're learning, or even if you don't if you look beyond the temporary mind-numbing paiun of uni. and look forward to see how iut can/may/will be applied to your future.

listener: go through life knowing that everyone is different, sees through a different lense. Everyone has a lesson to teach you. Seek to understand their oppinions before you reply with your own, do not assume/judge/dismiss/or overlook anyone until you have made you best effort to walk in their shoes. You can only benefit from seeing the world from a variety of vantage points. and your own will be more firmly grounded in the process...
