I understand there is tension between the Jews and the muslims in Palestine, but why does this seemingly local tension get the whole world so worked up, such as the President of Iran and his recent comments? I understand there's a deeper religious tension, but it still seems odd that people so far away would have such a strong opinion on something that doesn't seem to effect them. Thanks in advance

They are force fed this propaganda every day of their lives in schools, in newspapers, on radio & TV & from Mosques. Propaganda works. Islam has always been intolerant of non Muslims. I think it comes from the Koran & some other Holy Islamic writings. It is getting much worse now.

Iran had ok relations with Israel, especially business ties, before the Islamic lunatics took over.
In short, Jews living independently of Muslim domination is a huge insult to Islam. From the Muslim perspective, it's like the universe being turned upsidedown, something they need to correct.

The feud between the Muslims and the Jews goes back to Biblical days. It boils down to the Muslims believe that Israel was promised to them by God. The Jews believe it was promised to them. It doesn't matter to Muslims where they live they do NOT want Jews in Israel.

The question is incomplete as the comments of the Iranian President is not mentioned.
One possible answer to the question could be because the US is meddling in the affairs of the Middle East.

The Royal families & theocrats need something to divert their citizens' attention. I think Israel is just a distraction from their crappy gov'ts. It's been reported for years that a lot of Arab states do not allow their citizens to protest their own gov't. However, they can get out and burn American/Israel flags at will. If the masses couldn't protest something, they might eventually turn on their gov'ts.

Leaders of countries in the Middle East often invoke the Palestinian cause to get their approval ratings up in their home country.
News channels in Arabic and Persian are constantly covering the events in Occupied Israel, and the viewers are very sympathetic toward the Palestinians.

When the head-tin-horn-terrorist- dictator of Iran denies that the holocaust even happened, it's a pretty sure bet Iran is no friend of Israel. His attempt to re-write history has backfired on him though, thank goodness.

Generally, Arabs hate Jews and want to kill them,
They've been doing it for hundreds of years before there was an Israel.
