Like any wireless controller, they'll lose connectivity if their battery is discharged or if they're too far from the unit itself (PS3 controllers operate over Bluetooth, so the maximum range is about 30 feet). Obviously when powered down they're disconnected, and need to reconnect once they're powered up.

Also, the controllers need to reconnect when switching in and out of PS2 emulation mode for playing PS2 games.

many ppl are having incidents where the controller kinda wigs out occasionally. for instance, ppl in resistance are suddenly running into a wall withouth any control for a brief period of time, doesnt happen often, but it does happen :D

yes they do after a certin distance away or unless you have a booster
