My list:
I would live in...
1. Texas (best)...friendly, multicultural, warm, booming, clean
2. Hmmm...I'd say Tennessee: unique, funky, picturesque
3. Mississippi: lovely pine forest, that lovely pine forest smell
4. North Carolina: great scenery
5. South Carolina: friendly folks, all in all
6. Oklahoma: more midwestern, but has a lot going for it
7. Alabama: boiled peanuts and pristine beaches!
8. Georgia: just stay out of Atlanta
9. Louisiana: away from New Orleans, it's alright
10. West Virginia: not all that Southern, really, but the countryside is gorgeous.

I would not live in:
11. Arkansas: unless it's NW Ark., the rest of the state is desolate.
12. Virginia: only "Southern" b/c of its affiliation in the Civil War. Culturally, it has practically become NYC/NJ.
13. Kentucky: can you say "White trash with money?" Seriously. Too many mean rednecks.
14. Florida (worst): too many old retired yankees. Miami is so overrated. The state is flat and boring.

I live in Mobile Alabama and it's nice here, you have the beaches close by and Mobile has everything you'd want in a mid sized city. It's big on education, there are a lot of colleges, libraries and museums.

Every month there is something going on like Bay Fest, Mardi Gras, Fairs, Carnivals, Fishing Rodeo's, Concerts, Senior Bowl, GMAC Bowl, Bay Bears Baseball just to name a few things.

Pensacola Florida is about an hours drive to the east and the Casinos in Mississippi are about 45 minutes to the west, New Orleans is about 2 hours to the west.

With all due respect, Florida is NOT flat and boring. Miami is only one part of a very large state.

You make a very ignorant comment about it being all "Old Retired Yankees". The majority of the state is not that at all.

Spend some time in St. Augustine, Sannibel, Panama City, The Keys.... you will come back with a different attitude.

I live here in Florida & I love it...

I live in Georgia so I would recommend Georgia, they have great employment opportunities and you'll never get bored in the atlanta area. Also South Carolina is nice also, clean and friendly, small towns where the cost of living is cheap but they are close to bigger cities when you get bored.

a will go along with you on all these except florida. but i only vacation there so i dont really know what it would be like to live there. i live in nw arkansas, and your right its good here. we have beautiful lakes and mountains. the rest of the state is kinda flat but beautiful in its own way. my second choice would be louisana. people there are awesome, hard working and love to eat and party.

I agree with Amused One about Florida, but if I had to live somewhere else, I would go with North or South Carolina.

I actually plan on moving to Texas from California this year and I would never want to live in Florida!

I live in SC. I'd consider NC and GA. GA has the best teacher salaries in the region, and I'm a teacher. I definitely would not want to live in Texas (sorry!) or WV (I drive through it on my way to visit my folks in Ohio. Yes, it's pretty, but there's not much there.)
