I was born in 1990 and I turn 17 in March. If I go to the movie theater next month, and ask for a ticket to an R-rated film, will they let me in? Does a month really make a difference?

It all depends on if they card you or not. If they do, most will follow the letter of the law. As to whether a month matters or not, no, not in the big picture, but it's the same all over. If there's an election a week before your 18th birthday, you still can't register to vote. If you turn 21 on a Monday and want to go out the Saturday before because who wants to go out on a work/school night, you still won't be able to drink.

But -- lucky you -- if you decide to go shoot someone you WILL be tried as an adult. Ain't bureaucracy grand!?

For those who have stated you can't get into an R rated movie until you're 18, that's incorrect. R rating bans anyone under the age of 17 from entering without a parent or guardian. NC-17 bans all people 17 and younger, period.

As stupid as this sounds, when you're 16 a month does not matter. They will not let you in to a movie if you are 16 period. Even if it's two days before your birthday. However, just do this: Buy tickets to a movie rated PG-13 of PG and just walk in to the R movie. It works just fine and you dont need to worry about anything. However, don't try to get R tickets or else they will be suspecting of you.

I think that if you don't look that young they will let you in. But it does say 17 and over. And when you turn 17, you could only buy one rated R movie ticket. You have to be 21+ to be able to buy more than one rated R movie ticket.

Technically it does, but it also depends on the theater. If they have a strong policy about checking ID, then you probably won't get in without your parent or guardian.

It never hurts to try, but I would be surprised if you get away with it.
