I was married to a guy from Pakistan 20 years ago. I attempted to file for divorce on the grounds of physical abuse a few months later. He tried to beat me up when I went to sign the papers and I am not sure if the divorce was ever finalized because he essentually forced me to flea for my life. Can I annul this marriage this many years after I have not had any contact? He is supposed to have gone back to Pakistan.

sadly annulment is not an option. I agree that you should check the court records to confirm. If it did not go through then you will have to re-file for divorce and this time it may be costly as I believe you have to take some exhaustive measures to try to locate him first. If he can be located, your lawyer will have to attempt to mail him the divorce documents for signing. It can be a process but well worth it if it is preventing you from moving on.

you can contact the court where you filed and see if it went through, otherwise, you have to restart the divorce proceeding again ...annulment is not possible
