I don't think it matters what state you are in, but I believe you have to be 18. It would make sense since at 18 you are technically an 'adult' and the credit card company could go after you for financial repayment. If you were smart you would stay away from credit cards for as long as you possibly can.
A debit card is linked to a bank account but can also have a credit card associated with it. Usually the credit charge comes directly out of the bank account.

Depending on the bank, you can usually get a debit card as young as 16. It will be your own account with your money, but one of your parents must authorize it. Because it is not a credit card (even though in most places you can use it as one) there is no lending of funds. If you want a real credit card, some banks will let your parents add you to their account at younger ages. If you want your own, you will have to be 18. If you use it responsibly, getting a credit card as soon as possible can boost your credit score later on by increasing the average age of your accounts.

as far as I know it is 18 for a credit card. but you can get a debit card with a checking account. the deference is a debit card can only be used up to the amount you have in the account. but for an example if you don't keep track of your spending and for example you have $10.00 in the bank and you first debt out $3.00 and then half an hour later (before the first transaction clears the bank) then take $8.00. you become $1.00 overdrawn. then they charge you anywhere form $25 on up plus a per day charge for being overdrawn. so right off the bat you have to pay $26.00 just to get your account to 0 and then if you have a minimum balance requirement you may still be charged per day.BE CARE FULL

To legally sign a contract, you must be of legal age. In most states this is 18. When you sign the credit card receipt, you are signing a contract, a promise to pay.
However, many banks will allow you to have a card if a parent or legal guardian takes responsibility for your transactions.

I can be as young as 13 if your parents or another resposible adult will become responsible for the carges as well. Otherwise you can get a card at 16 in most states, and 18 in all. Just be careful. Bad credit can ruin your future fast that anything else you can do.

You need to be legally 18 years of age. You can have your parent/s co-sign for a credit card for you.
