I have no clue what I want to do. But, I'm 26 and I just want to get into college. Is there some sort of assesment test I could take online to help me?

Nicole, here is the test. I want you to think about all the things you enjoy doing. Now narrow it down to the thins you would do even if you were not paid to do it. That is your passion. That is what you want to do. if you find that there is not a major that matches your passion exactly, check the career sites and find what careers match your passion. For instance if you like to bake cookies you could look into pastry chef or major in business and open a bakery. I am sure you understand what I am saying. In any case Good Luck in your endeavor.

There are many assessments, exams, personality tests, etc. to help you make this decision. I'm not saying it's too late, but by the age of 26 -usually one has developed some prior commitments and fondnesses for career choices in their lives - but that's ok if you haven't. What you need to do is make a list of the things you really like to do. Something should stand out that you lean toward. But more importantly, you can get 'educated' and not declare a major at this point. Many students start out without a major in mind, but go with the 'general education' classes - just to get their feet wet. English, Composition, History, Art, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Languages, Music- these are all the 'intro' type classes that can help you sort out your ideas. You'll find something. Also, look for the classes that are out of the box - something unusual. Talk to counselors and advisors. Do you work? If you like your job, you might want to delve into something like that. Do you play an instrument - would teaching be of interest to you? Business? I wish you the best.

Assessment tests help. My school gives one online but obviously that won't do unless you're enrolled here. However, I think it's basically safe to say all colleges have career counseling so, if you enroll, make an appointment with the school's counselors, it'll be the best thing you can do.

What also may help is figuring out what you're terrible at, what you hate and what you don't want. For example, I fail at math, I hate anything that has to do with numbers and I would kill myself if I had to work a 9 to 5 job in a office. Eventually, I figured out (it only took me several years) that I loved writing. When I was contemplating majors and careers, I kept coming back to the idea. If you think about the things you love, the things that interest you, it'll eventually narrow down. Trust me, my interests were all over the board.

And, most importantly, just remember you're not eternally tied to that major.

I changed majors at least 3 times every year. I am now 36 and didn't know for sure what I wanted to do until I was 35..u have at least 2 years of gen ed req. to take so state undeclared and meet with an advisor..they will help.. Also decide "what do I want to do every day for the next 40 years"..if it's not work with kids, don't teach..if it's not work with sick people..stay away from medical field..etc. A career is something u enjoy doing daily not just a job..My major will pay me very little but I will enjoy doing what I do..that makes a difference

You know, just wanting to go to college for the sake of going to college really isnt a good idea. If it doesnt work out you may have to drop out, and will have wasted lots of money. And if youre not overly keen on anything then you probably wont get great marks, which is not good. You should go to college because you want to learn something. That motivation will mean you work hard and get good grades.

You may be feeling like youre getting older and need to get into a career or something but if you go to college without a goal or plan then youre just wasting time! I recommend you go to your prospective college and talk with a student advisor and get them to help you figure out what your interests are.

You need to think about what type of person you are, what sort of job you would like to do, what are your interests and hobbies, what makes you feel good? what sort of job can you not see yourself doing?

eg: I love sport, being active. I am very sociable and friendly, and love giving something to people that makes them feel good. I hate offices, and could never work in one. Sfter a bit mroe thinking like this I came to realise that I would love to be a phys ed teacher. and wouold probably be a good one too! So i enrolled in an education degree.

ok enough of my sermon! If you just want to go to uni, have a look at all the majors offered, do a bit of research about whats involved, what skills you need, and where it cant ake you. Its not really a test u can do ont he net, it will take a bit more time! you need to talk to people at your college.

yes colleges have mutliple assessment tests to help you decide. they can be usefull tools. In the mean time start with basic classes that transfer to as many colleges as possible. Get in to see an academic asap to help with your plan. Good luck.

You don't need to make up your mind for a couple of years. Take a general course and as many different subjects as you can to see what interests you.
