You aren't limited to a year on the site. You are limited to a year per plush toy that you register. That's how they keep you buying the toys (they are a toy company not a internet gaming company). The thing that stinks is that if you adopt a 2nd pet, it's a year from the date you register the 2nd pet. The 2nd year doesn't get tacked onto the first, giving you 24 full months of usage. If you have the discipline to buy only 1-2 animals per year, it's a very cheap membership fee to join the site ($7-10). They say they may allow members to renew their accounts at some point but I'm not holding my breath. I think they'd rather have people buying the stuffed toys (and since they appeal to collectors, most people would probably rather buy more than renew anyway).

It's kind of their way of asking you for a membership. Since you buy the plush, you get a year on the site. But a one-time investment wouldn't benefit them much, so they limit that to one year.

If you want to extend your account, I believe you have to buy one new pet every year. They may change this to simple renewal soon.

ummmmmmmmm... i guess it's the company's way of making sure use ur money and buy more if you want to keep going on webkinz. PRETTY SMART........
