I have a ford windstar and that belt broke today and I want to call around to see how much it will cost to get it fixed and I don't want them to see a dumb female coming from a mile away and take advantage of me.

this belt is called a serpentine belt make sure you know the make model year as well as what components you car has in it like you said ac .. got to a auto parts store or call them on the phone and get a price for the part see if they would recomend a place to put it in they deliver to plenty places all day. strous auto is a good place to go to they are a parts store and installer and they won't take you to the bank if the broken belt did not damage anything then the job will cost about100 and the part <50

No, once the belt is broke, there is no straine on the pump. Usually if the belt is loose you will hear a squeak, or squealing noise at start up, then it will sometimes go away after about 10 minutes. You can also tell if a belt is bad by looking at the inside of the belt, and you will see little cracks along the whole span of the belt, and if so replace it.

Yes Serpentine Belt...I had a 98 ford escort and they all wanted $250 to replace it..hopefully you can have someone do it for you that won't charge as much.

Serpentine belt....It shouldn't cost much to get fixed, it's a 3 minute job, and the belt's cheap so make sure they don't sucker you into paying $200 for it.

serpentine belt. Make sure ALL pullys and idler wheels turn freely and dont growl or wobble before replacing belt or you will ruin it.
