How should I go about starting the process? There are only two small colleges within a fair distance of me. I'm not traveling, I have small children who are in school. I want to somehow take classes so I can someday have this as my carreer. So what type of degree do I need? Where do I begin? Is anyone farmiliar with this process who can help guide me? I am a 25 yr old stay at home mom who wants to have a carreer lined up by the time both of my children are in school all day (assuming I am done having kids that will be in about 6 years).

Guardian ad Litem - A Child's Advocate in Court
Guardian ad Litem

"It is worth every minute of my time to be a part of the system to find safe, permanent homes for the children I serve. My background is in mortgage banking and I have no experience with the court system nor children of my own. I became a Guardian ad Litem Volunteer at the urging of a friend. I have always loved children and I've always known that I have a mother's heart".

Welcome to our pages! If you have arrived here, it is because you are at least curious about how you could help an abused or neglected child... and you can. Throughout North Carolina, we always need more volunteers to be a voice for the children who find themselves the subject of court cases. We provide training to make sure you are at ease in your role, and as a volunteer Guardian ad Litem you will be in court as a team member with a trained attorney advocate. Since 1983, the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program has served the best interests of thousands of children. Many were able to return home, some now live with other family members, still others have been adopted. What we try to ensure is that all of the children we represent remain safe, and that their homes are permanent.
