Movies theaters usually don't hire anyone under 17 because of R rated movies. First job I got was because I was friends with a guy who already worked there. Also, I used to be very shy about trying to get a job, and never called back much, or even gave eye contact for the most part...it was hard to even get an interview. My advice is to fill out a few applications, and show some confidence. A day or so after submitting the applications call the places back and ask if you can get an interview, and keep calling back until you do. After the interview wait a few days and continue calling back asking if they've made a decision. Don't worry about annoying anybody; it shows you're very interested. I'm 22 and got a good job at a place that pays very well, and I got it, even though I don't have a very good work record, because I bugged the hell outta those guys over the course of two weeks. Of course I work at a factory, and it'll be a few years before you could get hired at one of those (and hopefully you'll be able to skip working at one altogether), but it works at just about any level.

this is why the show should not be on tv, it glamorizes teen pregnancy. I hope that she decides against it for the child's sake. A child who is conceived only for the possibility to be on tv will not receive the love and care that is needed. Why is it only stupid people are breeding? First off tell here the probability that she will end up on that show is close to nill. Around 250,000 teenagers 17 and under get pregnant. I'm not sure how many girls are on the show. ill say 5. that means she has a .002% chance of getting on that show. Now she she stuck being raising on a child and hoping that the father stays to help man. meanwhile the decision has forever hampered the potential she could of had for a better future.

Many companies do not want to hire minors. However, that does not mean you don't have a lot of options. You can work in an ice cream shop, many different types of restaurants, supermarkets, clothing stores, amusement parks, etc.

Do make sure you get working papers from your school. Most jobs that hire 15/16 year olds ask for them.

Set your sights low.

I'm not trying to be rude when I say that. What I mean is, while you're certainly physically able to do things more challenging than flip burgers or checkout groceries (not to demean those jobs...just as examples) ... you're NOT going to get a job as a hotel manager at 16 years old. You have to work your way up.

So whatever field you want to be in (child care, hotel/restaurant management, retail, car repair, etc.) find a low level position. Learn ALL you can and work your way up.

Don't expect to go in and be making more than minimum wage to start-- these jobs that you have in your teen years are for you to learn and gain experience. Both in your field and in life.

The experiences you gain at a job teach you about "office politics" and relating to coworkers and such. You've got to learn these skills in order to make it in the real corporate world you'll be in after college.

Starting small also means you'll have less responsibility in the position-- which is GREAT at your age. You'll be able to earn some money (please save some for college. I didn't and now I'm drowning in student loans) for fun stuff and savings for cars and college, etc, AND you'll still have enough free time to STUDY for school and hang out with your friends.

16 is a great age to just get a job just for the paycheck and the work experience on your resume. Try to get one small promotion every year at least. Make sure you know what your state laws are on annual reviews and raises and be sure to expect your employer to stick to those rules/regulations-- this is how you grow and develop.

One word of advise: No matter WHAT Job you take, make sure that whenever you're given advise or criticism- either one, you're able to take it with an open mind!! When I first started working, I took all comments/criticism as personal attacks-- I've now learned that they are opportunities for me to grow and develop and work on parts of myself that are weak OR are already strong and to keep improving those areas! :)

Best of luck to you.

Do baby sitting locally. It's tax free. Otherwise ice cream parlours are more fun than take out chains to work for. You could also be a check out operator at your local supermarket. Movie theatres also hire young workers. My advice is to start saving ten percent of your pay cheque no matter how low it is and you'll be amazed how quickly you have some decent cash to invest, which is how you get rich. Get used to saving and make a plan now.

I worked at a pet store when I was in high school and it was a lot of fun. I met lots of cool people and it was fun working with animals. I also worked at a summer camp - I made lots of friends there too and had a great time. Wow I really miss those days - having a real, grown-up job sucks!

When I was your age here's what I was doing:

-Babysitting
-Giving guitar and piano lessons
-Tutoring younger students in math and English

I could set my own hours, charge my own rates, and I did very well for myself. So you might consider your own talents before you rush off to the fastest burger joint. Just a suggestion. Good luck!
