I hear this a lot from my husband's friends and I can't figure it out. Example:if someone is visiting and it is 4:20 p.m. they announce this as being time for something.

According to pot smoking legends, marijuana is said to have 420 assorted chemicals (more are now believed to be present). 420 has now become the ganga smokers' code word for pot. Whether it is April 20 or 4:20 (time), it is celebrated with a bong hit, a spliff, a blunt, or a juicy bud. April 20 is a big day for many people here in Humboldt County Calif. (and many other parts of the country). Party on Garth!!

420 means marajuana, supposedly because some college kids said "420" to each other as the designated time to light up a joint. ANd then again some people say it is police code for drugs. I am not sure about that one. THat is also why April 20th (4/20) is national weed day according to smart alek kinds and stoners.

420 is the police code of possession of marijuana. Lots of stoners have taken that to mean at 4:20 they need to get high - a rebellion.
