I have a job application to fill for YMCA, they have a question in there that goes like this “What is your philosophy about discipline?” Can you all give me a sample reply to this question or what it means. What should I wear if I have an interview for the front desk post at YMCA? Please advise. Thank you all in advance.

Hi There!

Hmm... a sample answer. First you need to think carefully about why you would be asked that question. Discipline covers a LOT of topics. I would think you're questioned about discipline in order to find out if YOU have discipline and how tolerant you are of others. My answer might be something like this:

My parents have taught me the importance of discipline, most importantly self discipline. It's the foundation of pride, accountability, and dedication. I like to think I not only possess those qualities but self discipline has allowed me to be confident in knowing I can accomplish my goals.

Regarding your attire:

I'd recommend mature attire. Don't go crazy and be super fashionable- go with a sedate look. Darker bottoms (Dockers, etc) and a button down shirt or a sweater. There's no need to wear a suit- if you do you may overwhelm the interviewer. Scope out what people are wearing there and dress just a little bit nicer to show you'll "fit in". Tone down any makeup. Keep your jewelry to a MINIMUM, no visible piercings- if you have them, take the jewerly out. You don't want your interviewer focusing on your tongue ring instead of you!
Trim your nails and make sure you get plenty of rest the night before. Clean, pleasant and neat...that's your goal!

Good luck to you, I'll keep my fingers crossed! :)

regardless of the position, you should dress professionally. for the YMCA, perhaps a casual blouse and some nice slacks or nice jeans and some shoes to match.

as for discipline, how do you think children should be handled when they do wrong? answer that question and you'll have the answer for your philosophy on discipline.
