Some people don't realize that people with disabilities, whether they're born with them or they occurred later, can't help the way they look. Nor do they realize that we do have hearts. It seems that most people are only interested in how a person looks, and if he or she is not perfect, they don't take the time to see the person's heart. I will say that there are some rare exceptions to this, though. What I don't like is rude comments about my looks, such as "Ewww" or even "Are you retarded?"

Some people are just in considerate of what people feel! Some people just feel embarrased! of the way that person speaks or just stupidity.. everyone needs a friend: )
Sometimes some lack the patience, I dont consider myself with a disability but Ive always felt in my heart that everyone needs a friend: )

I don't think it's a general consensus, but perhaps it's just that people don't understand the disability or have never encountered it before and simply don't know how to act or react or 'un notice' the unique nature of a disability.

people don't dislike them-- its just that they're afraid and its akward and they feel really guilty for no reason. i was readin this in a magazine and it says that people start feeling guilty because they take for granted everything that people w/ disabilities can't!!! its just a common reaction and the thought of being disabled scares them and some ppl to make theirselves feel better- they make fun of them and stuff but those ppl r stupid jerks!!!

I don't personally know anyone who dislikes disabled people. But, my guess would be that if they do it is that they are immature or that they fear they too someday will be disabled.
Or they are just stupid and lack heart & soul

They should not feel this way. It will come back and haunt them.
We should respect folks with disabilities and as u get older u will especially folks that have served this country and got disable from wars.

Don't necessarily think they don't like, but probably don't know how to relate to them at first.. Then, somehow people take offense to the uneasiness and mistake for dislike.

When people say "building relationship" - they mean "building" - it takes time to build.

So, after getting over the initial barriers (even between different ethnic groups), personality and common interest are what keeps people together.

I truly don't know, it's like they think they will catch a virus or the same scars we have, it's a little juvenile personally. Or the friends say they will be your friends forever, but then you get a disability and they are no longer your friends, they don't want to talk to you nor share the same air with you. Thanks for asking that question, I was going to ask that question but didn't get it in, before you! Thanks.

They don't. It only brings out their own insecurities and they feel uncomfortable with that so they'll tend to avoid or hold strong opinions about them.
