Yes you can, we have had at least 10 of them over the years. In a small town no one really cares but in a larger town you should be able to get a permit, its like five bucks in Illinois. They are fun and smart but I dont suggest them stay inside becuase they get into everything. Females are better than males too unless you castrate them. Good thing is they arent picky when they eat, just give them food to eat with you and a water bowl to dipp the food in, they dont have saliva like we do so its a must. Hope that helps ya, good luck

It is not legal in the US without a permit in most states. Rehabilitation places will not even usually take raccoons anymore.
As for a pet raccoon- you don't want one. They will be a cute and adorable baby, but no matter how much you socialize them, 90% of them will turn at about sexual maturity and start attacking you for no reason. You will not be able to hold or pet them, and they bite and scratch very hard. I have scars yet from raccoon bites.
They need constant stimulation and a lot of brand new toys. If you do not prove this, they will start attacking you for a game. They will tear apart everything they get into, couches, bags, walls, etc. They will also eat everything- I know of one case where someone thought it would be a good idea to have a raccoon- and it killed their cat and ate all of the saltwater fish in her aquarium. (there was a solid clip on lid- the raccoon removed it).

Please rethink your pet choices.
They also carry many diseases. I know exactly where the ones I handled came from, and could be pretty sure that they were disease free, but can you say the same with one that you could find? There are vaccines available, but not tested on if they even work on raccoons.

For the people who release their "pets" back into the wild- ILLEGAL, dangerous, and stupid. You may be releasing diseases into the wild populations. The animal may not know how to survive, or they may go up to your neighbors and get shot because they thought they were rabid by moving around in daylight (was on a case where the warden had to do this, found out later it was a pet- fined the owner).
And finally they are WILD animals. Raccoons in 90% of the cases, don't tame down and if you randomly pick one out of the wild, who is to say that they don't have one of the couple dozen diseases that raccoons carry that can be transmitted to humans?

I had a pet coon when I was a kid. He was my best pal...Until he got to be about a year and a half old. Then he turned into a raving lunatic. Biting, fighting, chasing dogs, other kids. Just plain aggressive. He chewed the windshield wipers off a car once. That was funny. To me...not to the cars owner. Eventually he wandered off into the woods, and I didn't see him much, unless he was hungry. One day I gave him an apple, and he took it into the woods, and I never saw him again. All in all, a pretty good pet for the summer. Playful and fun.

My mom did when she was younger, but that was a long time ago. My Grandpa owned a pet shop. It was legal back then but I don't think it is now. Also, they don't make good pets. My mom said her racoon, Chi Chi was fine when she was a baby. When she got bigger, she attacked their feet from under the bed. They eventually had to let her go in nature preserve. They are wild animals. Don't get one. I know how adorable they are but no. Don't do it. Also, I really don't think it is legal to have one.

You can but they are really mean they would tear you apart no avince but they are aggresive and have teeth that would rip one finger off but if the raccoon was tamed then yes its a possibilty

It just depends on your state laws if they allow raccoons as pets. We had one when I was a kid. We got him when he was very young, his mother was killed. We socialized him as much as we could with all of the family members. As he got older however, he did not know his own strength and didn't hurt us but, not on purpose. When mating season came around he was always a little testy with us. They also need an adequate space to live (my father build ours his own cage outside) and the proper food. They are very social animals. Please think about this long and hard before you make you decision.

No. It is a wild animal. To have one you must have a special permit from your State's Department of Natural Resources. This is normally only given to those doing research, those managing zoos, or those doing wild life rehabilitation.

Why would you want one, they can be very dangerous.

How many times are you going to ask this question? No, its illegal in most states, and unless raised as a baby it wouldnt be a good idea.

Yes. But beware when the raccoon becomes of age, they get real real nasty.
