It is a frightening reflection of society`s fragmentation into a soulless and self-absorbed culture where voyeurism and virtual worlds are replacing the physical, mental, social skills that raised humans above every living creature on Earth.

Let me put this simply: The scariest example is `Celebrity` Big Brother which not only feeds zombied couch potatoes (unable to leave the sofa due to being stuck to it after too many hours of pointless voyeurism) but also reveals the ugly truth that the icons of our society are just as idiotic as the rest of us and prepared to humiate themselves for a few weeks in the limelight. (Using charity as a smokescreen is almost insulting since a donation would surely be much quicker and painfree for all involved?)

In this way the reality show signals the Death of Intellect in homosapiens in the same way that Ice Age 2 embodies the Death of narrative cinema. (Kermode, 2006)

Afterall, is there anything less `real` than a reality show?

I think they are tired and someone should think of something else now. they're all the same, and an excuse to behave badly, which is apparently encouraged!? I am sick and tired of everything on tv being either 'reality' or'celebrity' and they're all rubbish. They're not a good example to people and encourage the worst in human behaviour.Everyone now thinks they are entitled to 'stardom' via reality shows.

I think they are the worse thing on TV

Firstly they are contradictory, the show is not reality as it always filmed on a set and the participants are aware they are being filmed so their behaviour is different.

Situations in the shows are always created eg. availability of food and designed to cause conflict. Many are predictable like 'prisoners & guards' experinmnets

They always have a 5-10 min delay (it is never live) so you are wasting your time watching hoping to see something juicy!!

'Survivor'? when they give them food / water & anti venuoms!!!!

Secondly it is in the same league as chatshows like springer, where people gain personal pleasure watching others in physical/emotional pain & discomfort. (Simliar to pornogray)

Thirdly people begin to aspire to reality show contestants who are usually only popular for their superficial qualitys rather than any substantial achivements.

not the least bit interesting, dull and mind numbing.

waste of time and essentially a big money making exercise (yes im stating the obvious).

I would love to see the figures for how much money shows that the viewers vote for for weeks they earn from idiots who vote.

Not as bad as the late night quiz shows that dont even give away the prizes they say they do

Most of them are a waste of time. Once in a while someone comes up w/ a good idea, then all the networks copy.

I do like biggest losers, mostly because it has a purpose and encourages others.

I'm personally not a big fan of them even though I know they're a big success....if I wanted to watch real people doing real things and such....I would just watch real life rather than a tv...they're too played up and seem like you're just being a voyer.

they are incessant and unneccessary. they epitomise how low tv standards have become in britain especially. writers and creators instead of producing and showing programmes that we want to watch, rely on churning out the same old stuff day and day out. a total waste of time and a load of nonsense. thank goodness that i avoid them at my own peril

far too many of them around now... bring back real TV, like the variety performance, and celebrity squares!!
OK maybe not, but there are still too many of them and the format is boring and predictable now!
