actually..i am a vet. for small reptiles at the los angeles zoo. the honest reason why they do that is the motion of your finger relaxes their nerves and circulated the blood particularly in the brain. it is a form of hypnotism and is even used on certain mamals such as whales..

it's a nervous reaction...it like self defence reaction... playing dead they go in a trance iguana's also do it ..as well as beardies if u rub their necks....

They do because they might be afraid or it's just to uncomfortable.

sometimes it freaks them out and makes them nervous
