To be promiscuous is to have several sexual partners at the same time (not like an orgy, but having several different people at different times: John on Monday, Phil on Tuesday, and the like)

Promiscuity is the practice of making relatively casual and indiscriminate choices. Because of the popularity of this usage, the remainder of this article discusses sexual promiscuity. Promiscuity is discouraged by conservative modern day religions. However, some sects, cults, and religious orders have a place for promiscuous behavior. For example, there were special examples of religious prostitution in ancient Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome.

this is no webster's dictionary definition but basically it means a person either male or female who has many sexual encounters with different people and frequently without caring whether or not they know or love the person....basically sleeping around carelessly
