I remember when I was in highschool and in driver's ed there was a girl who had failed the driving test 4 times already and she was back to try again. Do you think everyone deserves to drive or should it become a more strict limit on those allowed to drive? May restricting the amount of people who drive significantly cost everyone as a whole more for funding public transportation? Or might it lead to a public transportation revolution that might change everything for the better? But on the flip side may it cause more uninsured and unlicesned drivers to be on the road costing us more in insurance and medical bills?

I do think there are a lot of people driving who shouldn't be.
Some--like me--are senior citizens. I'm a pretty good driver, but many my age and older are not. They simply don't see things they should see or react as they should. That doesn't mean all seniors are bad drivers. I still have good corrected vision and good reflexes and am a pretty aware driver, including aware of my own limitations.
There are other drivers--young drivers--who are too aggressive and are dangerous to anyone sharing the roads with them. We ought to make it much harder to get and keep a license and I would not object to being subjected to a physical every few years and even a driving checkride by a qualified instructor.
And all newly issued driver's licenses should be probationary for at least the first two years.

Honestly I think that the driving test should be stricter than what they are.. the elderly (or those that drive way below the speed limit), the teenagers, and those that have an extensive driving record (wrecks, tickets, etc.) should be the ones that have to test more often and it should be 1 test every six months and 3 strikes your out. If you can't pass the test in 1 1/2 yrs then you shouldn't be able to test again until about 10 years. Those that drive slow cause wrecks and those that drive fast cause wrecks. As far as people that drive without a license, there are a lot of those out there no one probably knows about and I think there should be tougher laws protecting those that have a license and are insured.

YOu pose some great questions...I do NOT think that everyone deserves to drive but unfortunately drives add alot of revenue to state and local tax rolls. Surely these entities want people to be safe, but they also want to be able to fund schools etc.
If driving were restricted more, there would be a loss of revenue from license plates, speeding tickets, etc.
It would be nice to see more restrictions for people who drink and drive.
It amazes me to see how many drunk drivers have 2nd and third offenses...I am sure that they contribute quite a bit to the increase in the insurance bills and medical bills that you were previously discussing.
GREAT Question, and unlike most, it really made me think.

It is a privilege to drive, not a right. Too many people take driving for granted and don't do it correctly. I don't know why people have to drive nutty! Yesterday I saw a truck run three red lights in a row!! I thought maybe something was wrong, then we stopped by him at a light and he was eating. Wild.
IN Germany, driving age is 18. And you pay a lot of money for the test.

I think that everyone should be able to drive, but when you reach a certain age I think that you should not be allowed to drive, because you never know what might happen. I am not saying that all senior citzens are bad drivers, there a lot of young people that drive worse than them. All I am saying is that their health might be a concern.
