Christmas: It's the Beginning!
By Robert A. Schuller

Christmas is significant because it is the greatest event in the history of mankind. Here's the meaning of Christmas in a nutshell. John's Gospel says, "In the beginning was the Word And the Word was with God. And the Word was God; He was with God in the beginning And the Word became flesh And made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, The glory of the One and Only Who came from the Father full of grace and truth." (John 1: 1,2,14) Christmas isn't about just any child being born; Christmas is about God extending himself in human flesh. He did that for a very good and important reason. He did it to communicate who He is and that we might realize what He is all about.

Christmas: It's the beginning! It's the beginning of God in flesh. The angels appeared to the Shepherds and they said, "Go and see the Christ child." One day in Sunday School one of the teachers was trying to teach the story of the Shepherds going to see the Christ child. She was teaching her 8 year olds the lesson and a lot of them seemed to know what she was talking about so she stopped and asked a question. She said to them, "Who can tell me what the Shepherds found when they went to Bethlehem?" The children were all excited to answer the question, and one boy was in the back jumping up and down and so she called on him. He said, "They found Mary and Joseph in the manger." Answers note " should be the most joyous time of the year.

Maybe because it symbolizes something painful that.. [someone] is still thinking about subconsciously or is just not comfortable enough to say.
Maybe [someone's] atheist.
Maybe [someone's] lonely around this time of year. For me it's kind of hard watching my friends have these huge family things in this big warm house.
Personally, Christmas Day is really horrible for me because I'm one of those people that gets depressed if I'm not doing anything. Wintertime is so cold (in California! =X), and my house is freezing, I'm too cold to do something indoors, but then again, everywhere else is closed on Christmas Day.

For those of us brought up in the traditional American family, Christmas evokes feelings from our childhood--both good and bad. We're reminded not only of how good things can be but also how bad things can be.

It is by far THE MOST emotional time of year. The most suicides occur AND December is the month of year when the most deaths occur.

Personally, I'm glad it's over.

The holidays and the approaching new year is a time of reflection. Unfortunately, its not always a positive reflection depending on how the previous year went and whether or not you lived up to your expectations. For many its depressing to realize things didn't go as planned or work out as well as you hoped.

I think it's because most people, for one reason or another, simply feel most alone at Christmas. It sure is when I feel most alone...and at the same time, it is my favorite holiday. I'm not sure what to make of that really.

I like Christmas. I don't get depressed about much anyway.

because we are reminded of those that we do not love or do not love us as we no longer need to give them or their family gifts - and we may have had great relations with brothers-in-law - but because their sister divorced us after 20 years - we can't visit

my second year to ENJOY Christmas

It is very depressing for me because I feel very alone on that day. My family are far away and my husband is often overseas for work.
