Pie graph :- where you have a total quantity/population to be separated on the basis of some criteria. eg Graduating population from a school and various destinations (uni/tafe/apprenticeships/ work etc) - segements are not quantitively different but qualitatively different - employment grouos.

Histogram (column graph) :- used in stastistics to show results and quantitive measures. This does not devide up a population into qualitative differences but quantitive (measureable) ones - scores in a test.

Line graph :- There are different types. Generally they can show mathematical relationships and EVERY POINT on the live has significance. They can be statistical graphs, life a Frequency Polygon - here only certain points have signifance. These can help show trends and patterns that are not so obvious with histograms.

Hope this helps.

Three Kinds of Graphs:
Line Graph (Comparison)
Pie Graph (Percentages and Portions)
Bar Graph (Comparison of more than 2 things)

They show the same data but in different ways.

a line graph is good for showing how something changes over time (like temperature or something)

a bar graph is good for comparing totals (populations of cities or something)

a pie chart is good for showing the various percentages of a whole (using one of the city populations - the percentage of people in various age groups or something)
