Your right. People from Canada are Canadians, people from France are French, and those hailing from Japan are Japanese. However if you are from America, you are some selection from the crayola library (black, white, brown, yellow, red).
A better question would be: Why is America the only country that you're something else other then you nationality?

Good question, it showed that most of the people don't take their time to understand the question (like the first and the third men who DIDN'T answer your question).
I can explain why (phonetically speaking, there is an explanation for that), but that would not count at all. So, here's another question for you: why are the people from China called Chinese, but the people from America are not called... Americanese???

African American, European American, American Italian, India American. Mexican American. And so on. With the exception of the true natives. Its the same everywhere. Canadian chinese. to Canadian Indians (true natives to the country) Stooop!
