i do both, i will argue adamently if i believe i am right, but if i am proven wrong i dont get angry, i take the new knowledge from the conversation and apologize if i have overstepped any boundaries in my arguements. but if its a debate over something then i will listen and learn and also give my own thoughts and ideas. hope this helped.,

A little of both I guess. On philosophical issues or personal viewpoints, I am interested in facts and ideas that I may not be aware of in forming my own views and beliefs. Sometimes I need to adjust to accomodate or refute contrarian positions.
Often times I'll play devil's advocate. If I think they haven't considered all the relevent information before reaching their conclusion I'll argue the contrary to their position just to get them to see they may have jumped to conclusions. A lot of people seem to only consider facts that support their desired conclusion and then any other facts after they "have their answer" are considered irrelavent, fabricated, or a conspiracy. Kind of like questions on YahooAnswers - once the question is closed, no more answers can be posted. ("impervious to evidence to the contrary" is an expression I have heard that I like)

If the other person is totally wrong, what's to learn? A common misconception is that the truth is always somewhere in the middle of two points of view Wrong!! One side of the argument can be totally wrong. For example; creationists.

I discuss issues so I can learn what the other person is thinking. Their opinion may not change mine any, but it will teach me what kind of a person they are. We can all learn from each other.

you tell the other person what you believe what is true , but you don't need to prove being right . If the other person is to stubborn to listen (assuming you are right) then you can never teach them anything.

I like discussions and listening to other people's opinions, it makes you learn and think. But if I believe I'm right I'll stick to my guns, but won't go as far as shoving my opinion down someone else's throat, because I don't like it when someone does that to me.

I like hearing the other person's point of view, but if they are wrong, and I can prove it, I will show them.

I javelin something. lol. Just kidding
If I'm not in the mood for conversation I try to avoid it. If I'm in the mood to learn, then sure I will listen and try to understand.
