Just look at my avatar...as I child I watched the first Halloween (1978) and was scared out of my mind. It took years for me to understand that this was just a movie.
What helps some people is to view the film from a directors stand point. When you watch a scary film try and see what camera angle the camera operator is using, watch the characters use of body language and think of how you might have changed a scene or two to improve the film.
Also, the "Special Features" on a DVD will usually show the "Making Of" the film. Watch this and see how the technical aspects of a film come together. You will see that the actors are just very hard working people earning a living, not real victims being stalked by a monster or killer of some sort. Usually they are laughing and having a great time on the set. Talking about how they love being drenched in fake blood.
See how the special effects of a film take hours to perfect and try to see how making movies is hard work and alot of fun. Relax, enjoy the film.
Hope this eases your fears a little.

When I saw "The Shining", I couldn't sleep for months afterward. A friend of mine saw the same movie, and was totally fine. He, on the other hand, was really freaked out by "A Clockwork Orange", which didn't give me any troubled nights.
My friend figured out that how you watch a movie can have a huge effect on how scary that movie is to you. You may want to watch The Grudge again, in the middle of a sunny day, while you're cleaning the house or making lunch or talking on the phone. You certainly won't be as frightened, and may sleep easier afterward.

I'll tell you what, I love horror movies but The Grudge is the first one that managed to scare the heck out of me! The only advice I have is to watch some comedies and keep lights on...the fear will subside over time; it did for me. It took a few months, to be quite honest, but the fear did subside. Just remind yourself that it's only a movie...

OHH that happened to me when i watched the Grudge 2. Start sleeping with your light on, and if you're still scared, you'll eventually get too tired and fall asleep. Close your eyes and think of a happy place :D haha.
Or you could watch another movie, like happy feet.
Eventually you'll get over your fear of the grudge.

that flick was pretty creepy, but i didn't think so after a saw a t.v. interview with one of the actresses from the grudge, who explained that the woman who played the ghost was actually a contortionist that was hired for her ability to creep around as she does throughout the film. The actress explained that this woman was a big fan of hers from some past works and was very courteous and proper. She even asked for an autograph.
An anecdote about the humanity of the actress who played such a ghastly character helped me out of the goosebumps of the Grudge, maybe it will help you too haha

Happens to ME all the time!! I will not let my husband watch Cold Case Files or any of that crap even though I like it before bed because then I can't sleep and keep hearing stuff. You should put something else on TV and watch it for a while..something happy. Also, try going to another part of the house for a while and look around so you don't think someone's going to attack you or break in. You'll be ok, I promise, how 'bout that? =) Think of the odds of something happening to you......it won't.

It's only a movie. It's not real. Don't just picture the scenes in the movie, picture "behind the scene action" ...... picture it all happening on a big set with cameramen, and directors all milling around. Imagine them saying "Lights!" "Camera!" "Action!" Imagine the actors doing the scene, then hear then say "Cut!" and picture the actors all walking off the set.
That's the way it really happened. There's nothing to be afraid.

Go to a site like:
http://www.movieweb.com/news/95/5595.php
and read about how the Grudge was made.
Try to understand that in all those scary scenes were about 50 people working cameras and lights and mics.
The way to deflate that scare is to realize that those are actors who need a lot of makeup, lighting, rehearsals, film editing, etc.
It's all phony.
Sometimes a scary movie gets us ready to deal with real crisises in our lives. But they are all smoke and mirrors.

I bought that movie today~haven't watched it yet though. Anyways try watching something funny~cartoons~anything not scary to make you think of other things so you can fall asleep. I never have a hard time falling asleep after watching a scary movie but I always have scary dreams after. Sleep well!
