No, you're absolutely not going to gain 50 pounds or have a blood clot as long as you exercise regularly and eat right. The pill's side effects are mostly only concerns for women past a certain age (like 45) and for women who smoke (smoking restricts blood vessels). I haven't had a single problem with my birth-control pills and I've been on them for five years (since I was 17), and at least six of my close girlfriends have never had problems, either. Birth control is highly (99.9%) effective when taken correctly, which is at close to the same time every day (though I often switch up my pill-taking times with no trouble). Just take it with your breakfast and vitamin in the morning.

I recommend taking the pill over anything. Do *not* use Depo if it's your first time on birth control because if you have a reaction, you won't be able to quit taking it (the hormones are essentially stuck in your body for three months). I don't recommend the patch for the same reason and, because it's fairly new, am still somewhat suspicious of its side effects. If you find yourself having trouble with the pill, you can simply quit taking it. The most trouble I had was a couple months of unusual/decreased appetite and nausea (the body reacting to birth-control hormones is somewhat similar to, but much less severe than, morning sickness in pregnancy).

I suggest you try Seasonale (what I'm taking now), which is great because you only get your period four times a year, though you may want to start with a very low-dose hormone pill like Alesse. You'll love the pill no matter which kind you decide to take. It eradicates cramps and will make your flow much lighter and far less inconvenient.

you will not gain that much weight with the pill you will gain some water weight though. I didn't gain anything with it and its unlikely you will get a blood clot but its likely and if you smoke it even more risky. dont take the patch they have had major side effects and problem with it. your best bet is to get on a low dosage birth control pill like loestrin. talk to your doctor about what the best option is. the depo provera is a bad choice because its too harsh and you will most likely stop your period.

The pill, in my experience doesn't make u gain weight.....I like it because I control when I take it and when I want to start my period....I used the patch and i didn't like it b/c it itched and if i went tanning i had a big square on me....and my Dr has told me that the patch isn't as effective as the pill.....also the patch has the chance of falling off and clothes rub against it and make the edges not stick very well

Well birth control can stop your period (pill) the (patch) just makes your period go on a regular scedule. Now the patch has more of am effect of geting blood clots and a heart attch. The pill has less risks but not that much. I am not sure what brand works the best but you can ask your doctor which works the best.

good luck!!!

The patch and the pill are the same thing except for the patch is a different method of delivery for the same medication that is in birth control pills.

I tried the shot and I gained 80 pounds while I was on it. I hated it. I also tried the patch, it made me gain 20 pounds and made my stomach sick all the time. I am now on Kariva and it is the only thing that doesn't make me feel bad and I haven't gained any more weight.

Also the patch makes your skin a little irritated at first, I didn't mind it except for the nausea, it wasn't that bad.

I advise the patch....I gained 13 pounds from taking the pills, and I was the type who could eat all day and not gain a pound. So theres a fair warning.

I am on the pill. Before you decided you should look into the different brands. Some will have less side effects then others. When it comes down to it, it depends on the person.
I am on Estrostep I have not had any effects on it. I once tried another BC and I had migrains every day. If you do have a side effect you can speak to your doctor about trying something new. Sometimes they will give you samples to try so you don't have to spend the money to see if it has any effects.

Each person reacts differently when taking birth control. Depending on other medicine you are taking, any genetics, if you are a smoker or not, the type of relationship you are in. All of this will come into play when choosing a birth control method. I would explain your concerns with your doctor.

I take the pill and I have never gained weight on it. Never tried the patch so I have nothing to compare it too! Although I would never in my life ever take the Depo shot!!!!!!!! Horrible!!!!! I gained 15 lbs with every shot and was extremely moody!!!!
