Well, it's wintertime, which means you're getting less sun. If possible, spend some time outside every day-just 20 minutes or so will help. This will stimulate your production of melatonin, a natural tranquilizer/feelgood hormone in your body. Should also improve your sleep, if you're having problems in that area.
Getting some exercise will help too, if you're not getting enough-it raises your endorphins, another natural feelgood chemical in your body.
Getting involved in helping others can help, if your depression allows you to be that social. Soup kitchens, blood drives (passing out cookies or whatever), all kinds of volunteer work available, if you have the time and inclination.
The volunteer stuff can help with another factor, staying plugged in socially. Isolation is a big no-no when it comes with depression. You may want to stay home with the covers over your head, but it really won't help.
Make sure you're sleeping enough, but not too much. Between seven and ten hours is normal, less and you need to see a doctor, more and you also need to see a doctor. You can try to regulate it yourself first, by getting up at the same time every day no matter what time you go to sleep. If you can't stick to this or turn into a zombie from lack of sleep, go to a doctor.
Adding or maintaining a spiritual dimension in your life can be helpful, but I am going to tread lightly here, as I have no idea what issues you may have in this area.
Consider a support group, even an online one. I'm in a support group for Bipolars (manic depression) and it has been extremely helpful.
Try to schedule some fun in your life, buy yourself something frivolous (just don't break the bank), dance in the rain (rain dance!), play mindless video games, go to work in mismatched socks and see if anyone notices...a little silliness can go a long way.
But don't wait too long to get help, if you should need it. If your depression persists for more than say, another month, or gets worse-get help. Please. Depression is treatable, and is not a weakness or a character flaw.

It's kind of hard to suggest anything if we don't know why your depressed. Maybe you had a break-up or are having financial troubles or maybe you are depressed for no reason and your not really sure why. You might try watching a funny movie or sitcom. Sometimes taking your mind off the feelings takes care of the problem.

Get around some kids - just watching them should make you smile. Hold a baby. Play with a dog. Pet a cat. Listen to soothing music. Try one of those natural daylight lamps if you don't have sunshine outside to be in.
