If you have the older "big" PS2, then you need the Network Adapter for it. The adapter comes with a special network disc.

If you have a slim PS2, then you should have a Network Disc that came with it.

Now, depending on how you connect to the Internet, there are several possibilities.

The easiest way is, if you have a router, that connects to the Internet. You have a router, if one or more PCs/Laptops are able to wirelessly connect to the Internet. Or your PC is connected to the router with a network cable. Just connect the PS2 with a network cable to the router and you're good to go.

If your PC is connected through a cable modem or DSL Modem and you can only connect one device to it, you need to use your PC as a router.

Windows XP has a Wizard that helps you setting up "Internet Connection Sharing".
You will need a Network card for your PC and (this is important) a Cross-Over Network cable.

Connect your PC with the PS2 via the Cross Over cable and set up Internet Connection Sharing.
However, your PC must be running when you want to play on your PS2 over the Net.
So in the long run, it would be adviseable to invest in a cable or DSL router.

Then insert the PS2 Network Disc and follow the instructions.
Finally your PS2 is connected.
