as in there are ancient truths but they lack modern belief, the truth of the ancients is still there its just the belief of man that has changed about these truths. or as in the truth is there is no santa clause but 100 years from now little kids will still"believe" in santa even though the truth about santa will remain forever, its just your belief about santa that will change, but the truth about him never will

Perception is truth and therefore is different from one individual and one perspective to the next. Truth changes with the broadening of our persepectives.

But there was a Santa Claus eons ago, just because he is no longer does not mean we dont believe in his good spirit and keep up the tradition he started. That is all in good spirit for happiness, and good will towards others. That is the greatest holiday of all,and the truth of the matter is that all over the world there are people of the same mind and nature. So the myth is only a tool for a common goal and isnt it incredible how many in the world are good and giving and the only time we see that is now, but it is still hopeful for all of us. So belief is just as important to gain the truth for other reasons, such as that. A belief is grand if it is beneficial for all, or most. The truth is a given and needs to be there as a constant for the balance to be kept for mankind. I just wish we had more beliefs like christmas for the greater good.

Truth has a basis in observable reality. As the observation shufts so does the perception of truth. Once something is learned it cannot be unlearned...only used as a platform for modifying and growing in understanding. Belief can be based on unreality...ie...con artists are great at generating belief. belief can be not more than gullibility...and/or superstition. Now than reality has expanded to further dimensions and nanotechnology...many truths are undergoing growth pangs. Each perception of truth expands collective consciousness. We need to respect differing ideas but foolishness does not warrant respect. Certain ancient causal relationships still exist today but we, like the universe are in a constant state of expansion. The only constant is change.

Isn't it a bit more complicated? Some things that were true before, are no longer today. While beliefs often change, the truth does that as well. Why do you expect truth to stand still?

One analogy involves still pictures. You take a picture of yourself as a teenager, the image would be true. But you won't look like that forever. Someday, you will age.

People must be aware of the dynamism of being. Or else we will be stuck in old and dated concepts, definitions, and beliefs.

Why use math terms in a philosophical question?

Anyway.

Truth is what we believe it is TODAY.
If you think the Earth is flat, fine.

But I hope you are living 500 years ago, OK?

Truth is a concept. An ideal to compare things to.

Most problems start when somebody declares they have "the Truth".

We're all human. Believing in our own technology and "knowledge".

We seem to get along best when we forget the cause of things and explore the effects.

Perception is NOT truth. Just because I might perceive that I am Napoleon or Snotdangle, the ruler of the known universe, doesnt make it so. Truth is out there absolute, and is not perfectly knowable to us due to our flawed minds (especially for those who believe they are the ruler of the universe). Belief is based on perception of truth, what we can see of it.

Well put. Just like, our understanding is constantly changing according to the knowledge we have at our disposal, but there is a constant in nature and life that we are always adjusting to; it is an art and a science to adapt to changing conditions in our dualistic world, but all the while being established in the Self, which never changes. Excellent question...

Maybe an ancient truth is still a truth, but will it still be a truth tomorrow?

truth is never constant. Truth is relative to the individual. What may be true for her is not necessarily true to him, e.g. Jesus as the Son of God.

I'd say so. Truth can't change and not supposed to change while belief can be changed or challenged.
