Why are US Presidents always laid out in closed coffins?

Go to www.history.com and look up the presidents and their buriel sites, I believe that some were not closed? Early on I believe I read something about George and Martha? Look up Mount Vernon?

I am not absolutely positive, but I think it's to make sure they stay inside.
