If your C-spine snaps, then yeah, it's pretty much over in a blink of an eye. If it doesn't break, then one would die of strangulation.

I think hanging of witches had more or less died out by the 1800s. There were some executions during the 18th century, but far fewer than there had been during the peak period, which was the 16th-17th centuries. However, hanging was a very common form of punishment for a wide variety of crimes, including petty theft, so there would still have been plenty of people being hung at that time(witches only ever made up a tiny fraction of the number of people who were hung). Before the drop was invented, criminals would basically hang at the end of the rope until they choked to death. Sometimes friends or relatives of the condemned crimianl would hang onto his feet so that his neck would break and he would die more quickly. The largest witch trial ever held in America, in Salem in 1692, resulted in the execution of 20 people, nineteen by hanging,a nd one man, Giles Cory, was pressed to death for refusing to plead (i.e. he would not answer the charge with 'guilty' or 'not guilty'). This was more than all the previous executions as a result of witch trials in New england put together. Far more people would have been hanged during this period for crimes other than witchcraft.

If they drop high enough, it will break there neck.
in the old day there where a few time the head came right off.
If that does not work they will have the carotid arteries blocked and in three to five minutes they will be brain dead.
For there person you most likely are asking about i would take the five minutes of gasping but he died right away, yet still a good start for 2007

If it is done correct (it usually is) - death is instant with the snap of the neck. This is like pulling the plug out of the wall on all systems in your body. In the instance where the rope is too short or the noose not placed quite right - you die of asphyxia in a couple of minutes and that's can be painful. If the rope is too long you could get too much momentum going and your head could come clean off. Death would be instant but quite messy.

That depends upon the position of the noose. If the noose is directly below the condemned persons ear then yes. If it is slightly off, then there will be a tremendous splatter of blood followed by a rather quick death. If the person doesn't drop far enough then the person will be strangled. If the person drops to far there will be a lot of blood and, depending upon the noose position a quick to long, agonizing death.

Nope. There's two ways that a hanged person dies, depending on the length of the rope calculated against the weight of the body. One is strangulation, which is slow, and the other is the neck breaking. It takes time. Hangmen used to carefully calculate the exact length of the rope, the weight of the body and the drop, plus where the knot is on the neck, to make sure that the person's neck broke, to make it faster.

YOU DO NOT DIE INSTANTLY! Even if your neck breaks...which you hope it does...it still takes a few minutes to die. If it does not, then you strangle to death...which is a little longer. But once your dead...you won't care. It would be worth it. You can die the most horrible death, but once you are dead, you won't care how you died. (or how long it took) You'll just be so peaceful and happy. Not to say you should kill yourself...If you are that unhappy, God will make you come back and put you in the same situation again, until you learn the lessons you came here to learn. (That is why I never committed suicide...I didn't want to do this sh*t all over again.) He determines when you get to come back home...if you make the decision yourself...He will be very unhappy.

Sometimes. they use to use something of the same size of the person that was to be hung so they could make sure theit head wasnt going to pop off. They would try to make it so when they were dropped, their neck would break. but usually they were just hung there til they died.
