When you watch a baseball game, you can see the flags out on the flagpoles. They are triangular with each teams logo ans are placed in the order that each team in in at the time.
The team that wins the league at the end of the year is referred to as the Pennant winner for that year.

If a team wins a pennant, it means they won either the NLCS or ALCS and are the team from their league that will play in the WS against the other league's pennant winner.

A pennant is also a triangular shape.
