I have a career because within that I change my job every few years but stay in the same career... if you get that.
I personally think a career is something in an area you set out to stay in for a long time (like more than 10 years) where a job is a temporary thing for only up to a couple of years

Right now I have a job, a job I don't necessarily like but it pays the bills and leaves enough left over for fun. I had a career in restaurant management but after 20 years of that, I was burned out. When you can no longer blow off some rude, drunken jackass who is giving you a hard time over a 99 cent cheeseburger, it is time to find another job or career.

Neither at the moment. I had a career I really liked, but I got ill and needed surgery. At the same time I was also going through changes in my depression medication. Coming off the one particular medication made me very ill (nauseated, dizzy, etc).
My boss didn't like women (She actually told several of us in the department this! And, even though she was a woman herself!) She decided I really wasn't ill, despite doctor's reports. So one day when I got sick, and I put my head down to keep from vomiting, she decided I was sleeping. She came over and hit me, Yes, hit me, and told me to go home.
I went straight to Humarn Resources and told them what happened. My doctor put me on emergency leave because the incident had so trumatized me. I also reported her to the police for assault.
After having the surgery I was supposed to have, the company proceeded to fire me for lying about a member of management ("violated company policy").
I won the lawsuit though. Thank the Goddess I do Reiki, or I wouldn't have known which part of her hand she hit me with, which is ultimately what won the lawsuit for me. 8 months after the incident the police officers I reported to still remembered me showing them how I knew she had hit me, and not just "poked me to wake me up".
However, I am now out of a career I really liked, and am having a he-- of a time finding another job. I'm sure the company is telling prospective employers their version of it, but I can't prove it.
