I have a small round cut and thought it might be a sapphire, but I didn't know if there was another type out there with this coloring?

It can be a real sapphire but it may not have been originally that color. Sometime radiation is used on natural gems to change color. Radiation is often used on tourmaline, topaz, sapphires and diamonds to achieve a rainbow of different colors.

These colors do appear in nature, but it is extremely rare and they tend to be very expensive.

If the stone has been radiated to achieve that color, there is a chance that (over time) it may revert back to its original color or change to another color due to environment.

None that I know about.

There are several pink gems, including light rubies and pink emeralds, sapphires and tourmalines. I do not know if I would call any of these hot pink. The sapphires come closest.
