I was curious to know if either site has provided helpful advice or networking opportunities for job seekers. Or are they just more people looking for jobs? Anyone have a success story with them?

In my opinion, I believe that both sites are primarily for individuals looking for jobs as well as for employers looking for hire qualified candidates.

I found my last job with Monster.com but Vault.com has excellent resources for careers. So both sites are good.

As far as networking is concerned, you can use both sites to find jobs as well as network because you are "making contacts" with future employers to pursue your career aspirations.

Hope this helps.

God Bless and Happy New Year!

I have previously used Careerbuilder.com and bought a premium package for $50 for one month. They claimed my header for the link to my resume would be highlighted in a way to attract employers. This did not provide a single phone call or letter.

I have found success by looking in the local paper over Monster, Careerbuilder, etc. and looking for job openings that include an e-mail address of the actual person doing the hiring. This way you know they will recieve your resume. I currently hold a HR postion at a pharmaceutical company and we do not use the big resume websites because of how much it costs us. If you ever look at the employer site and check the prices it brings sticker shock. The only way we would use them would be for a specialty postions or for national sales people. Other than that we have great success finding capaible people through our local paper. I as well found this job throught the paper and my previous jobs too.
I would recommend changing your cover letter and resume for EVERY application you send. We can tell if you have a generaric version or a specific version for our job opening. This will take a lot more time but the payoff is well worth the effort. In addition, make sure your resume is streamlined to the most important criteria need for the position. No body gives a **** what fraternity you were in or your volenteer work, this just looks like filler for lacking experience.
