I am interested in acting/directing. I am 16 -not american btw- and going to an acting school is not my priority, but I am thinking of studying acting or directing sometime, although my family wouldn't encourage me. The thing is that.. I have been looking at famous actresses' biographies, and they all have been acting since they were 10 or so. So can a regular person hope to succeed? And will I have the time needed -because it 's so competitive and I am going to study something else first, just to be sure about myself?
And something else: Is it true -it's what people say- that if you want to be an actress, you 'll have to go through some stuff -like flirting with producers for example? lol

Of course ordinary people can become famous actors/directors, but you have to put yourself out there, like going on tons of auditions. It's rare but it can happen. You don't necessarily have to be flirtatious or anything more for the job, but a lot of times actresses who have no talent (and even some that do have talent) have been known to give more than an audition to the cast director for a part.

If going to an acting school is not your priority then why consider this business? Life as an actor or director is HARD WORK and takes solid preparation and dedication. If you're ready to make that commitment then by all means, go for it! However, if you can imagine yourself doing anything else then stick with the "something else first."

All actress's and directors are "normal" people. To become a very successful one you have to study the right things, work very hard, and then get very very luckly.

To become an actress all you have to do is act, and to become a director you just have to find somebody and direct them. Becoming an actor or director is easy. Becoming a successful performer or director, making a living at it, requires talent, hard work, and luck. Becoming a rich and famous actor or director takes lots more luck.

I think "flirting" is an understatement for what some producers want you to go through.
