Oasis have been around since the early 1990s, they released Definitely Maybe, their first album in 1994, which is generally considered their best album, that or What's the Story Morning Glory which was their second album.
After that they were generally considered to have had a massive drop in quality, but in my opinion their last two albums have been great improvements especially the latest Don't Believe the Truth.
Some of their best songs are:
Slide Away
Wonderwall
Cast No Shadow
Stop Crying Your Heart Out
Part Of Queue
just to name a few

I have not researched your question so I'm just going to answer it based on my life.
I remember they first became very big in the USA around 1995 with the hits like "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova." They followed in the footsteps of the Beatles and are similar in that they are both from England and made it huge in the USA.
The band's founding members are Noel and Liam Gallagher who are obviously brothers. They are a songwriting duo just like John Lennon and Paul McCartney. And similarly, one of them is the lead singer, and the other is the lead guitarist.
Shortly after 1995, conflict ensued between them, in that the lead singer refuse to perform and that left his guitarist brother to front the band on lead vocals at a show. There's footage of this show available, they show it on MTV News or VH-1 behind the music from time to time. At that show, you can see the lead vocalist in the balcony of the theater actually heckling his brother about how bad the singing was.
In spite of the rocky road, the brothers have gotten back together, written several additional albums, and toured world wide.
My favorite song by them is still the classic "Champagne Supernova." In fact, it's one of my top 5 rock songs of all time. Hope this helps!!

The link below should tell you anything you'd like to know about Oasis.
My favorite Oasis album is Definitely Maybe. Favorite songs are "Supersonic", "Rock n Roll Star", and "Don't Look Back in Anger". Least favorites are "Champagne Supernova" and "Wonderwall".

There's a ton of info about them on wikipedia. I personally think they're ok, but my brother is a bigger fan. My fave songs of theirs are 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Don't Go Away'...
