Supposedly it compiles more information to retrieve data to be given back to the specific user requesting the information from a wider range of sources.
For advertisers it is much better because of the google adsense/adwords hence the reason it makes so much money on the Stock Market.
Also it is simplified for people who are not familiar with computers. You go to google, you type something in, and boom it gives it to you. There is not a lot of other stuff on the site that you can go into.
That is why most people like google better, however, in all reality dogpile.com retrieves their searches from all search engines, making theirs the best.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

I use Yahoo for many things, but for search, it's Google without question. The results are always more relevant. As a webmaster, I check search engine placement regularly, and I have found that my placement changes almost daily on Yahoo; because of some irrelevant links they tossed into the mix for that day. My Google placements are generally the same all the time. Also, Google gets more of my pages listed.

I'm with you! I've used both and don't see that I get better results from the other site.
I wonder if it's so popular just because it's a funny name. To "google" and "googling" have made it to the dictionary.
Go figure.

Personally I don't like either of them all that much, but to try and provide an answer here - google is much "liter" meaning it loads faster and chews up less bandwidth
Personally I'll stick to Lycos for my email and Altavista and Alltheweb for my search engines

Yes, you're missing out alot.
Google has the "Search within results" option that helps you narrow down your search quicker and a lot of other neat little features that Yahoo doesn't have.
Cheers!!!!!
