I was REALLY into anime when I was younger, but just stuff like InuYasha, Trigun ... etc. And well, eventually I grew out of it and moved on to other things. I would still watch it here and there, but nothing terrible.
Years went on, and I really didn't think too much of anime or manga anymore. . .
But that was up until recently. All of a sudden I've been watching anime and reading manga again like I did in the past. I REALLY don't want to fall back into another "anime slump" where all I do is think, talk and breathe anime! It, quite frankly, is creepy when people are like that. And I don't want to be like that again.

But, I've tried to go cold turkey, but I can't do it. And I feel myself just being drawn back into the addiction like before.

(Wow, I just made that sound like I was trying to quit a drug. . . o.0 )

I also am a (small scale) musical theater performer. Honestly, it feels like anime is stopping my progress as a performer as well, I can't seem to focus when I'm dancing(or singing.. or whatever).

I was a bit into anime for a while, but I now look at it as a bad chapter in my life. (Wow, I guess I'm starting to sound like it was a drug addiction too...)

What did I do? I tried things until I found something that I can obsess over just as much, while making it cool and social! I'm talking about music, both listening to and making it.

My anime fads died hard when I discovered rock 'n roll and my current obsessive hobby, the bass guitar.

Find something else that interests you. Get a new hobby or try something completely new!

I know exactly where you are coming from. You want to share your experiences and interests with your peers but there comes a point when you have to draw the line. I started watching House MD on TV, working on my own writing and got into yoga. I STILL watch Inuyasha and read Strangers in Paradise and watch cartoon network like mad but I now have other things to discuss with peers so I'm not known as that anime/comic freak.

i love anime and manga and not ashamed of it. i was really into it like a year ago, like REALLY into it. i still am but not everything for me has to be about anime and manga. its just time i guess. schoolwork and extra activities have made me less able to read/watch manga/anime therefore i'm not obsessed with it. don't completely get away from anime/manga, just slowly give some up. eventually you'll get used to it. hope i helped!

Just anime it all out! Or, even better, write loads and loads of fanfiction. That's what I did, and now I'm considering a career in writing.
