Why do people who claim to be unhappy about their circumcision get labeled as freaks? Many people are depressed for reasons far more stupid than this. But if a man is depressed about a cosmetic procedure that was forced on him that he didnt ask for or want, he gets labeled a freak. I don't see how being depressed about losing sexual pleasure is so outrageous.I know the evidence says there is no proof that it decreases sexual pleasure, but being that I had it done at 20, because I was stupid enough to be convinced to have it done for NON-medical reasons, it definatly makes sex pretty lousy. I consider myself blessed however. Unlike most American men, I at least got to have good sex a few times.

I feel very sorry for you. You made a bad decision, but most bad decisions are reversible, and this one really is not. It's hard enough to have to live with this feeling without being called a freak. Have you looked into restoration. People tell me it's not as good as an intact foreskin but way better than none at all.

Sickening as it is (I am a Canadian, vehemently opposed to infant circumcision), it seems this is the society and ideals we have built for ourselves. The vast majority of the population has been mis-educated into thinking the foreskin is a dirty body part, teeming with bacteria and causing nothing but problems and embarassment. Hence, most men are only too grateful to have had this done in infancy. Combine that with the fact that men are taught to be insensitive and unfeeling in most cases, and certainly to be proud of their penises at all costs, and the result is that any guy who would be upset that this has been done to him is seen as having 'too much time' on his hands (something I was recently told during a debate on a forum I frequent). It's sad really. We would never dare say such a thing to a woman who felt she had been wronged.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this now. There are ways of 'restoring' the foreskin, but you will never get it back. Lesson learned, I suppose, although too late. I imagine that over time you will get used to the lessened sensation (very common, cirp.org is a great resource for anyone wanting more info on these issues) and be able to enjoy sex again.
Best wishes!

Intresting question. There's no going back, no point on dwelling over it I guess.
Then again I'm a women, with 4 daughters so its very hard to relate. Maybe the question should be do parent's have a right to make such a choice for their son?

I guess regret is something you have to live with since it's not a reversable procedure. Maybe you need to try and focus on moving past your difficulties and hopefully you can find a way past this.

Good luck and sorry for your regret.

I agree with your totally...it's male genital mutilation...funny how when performed on women it's seen as barbaric yet thousands of males babies have this procedure done on a daily basis. I say God put it there for a reason so leave it alone.

i have never even come across a man that was unhappy about his circumcision to even think to call them a freak. it's a personal decision, why would anyone else care? and how would that conversation ever come up anyway?

Sorry, but I tend to be a little skeptical of such claims.

One of the first discussions I had with an anti-circumcision activist, they claimed to have been circumcised as an adult and told me how ruined he felt. A few days later, I noticed the same person telling someone else saying that he was uncircumcised and how great their foreskin was.

More recently, a different anti-circumcision activist spoke at great length about his wondrous foreskin, but wrote a letter to a widely-read newspaper (in response to the finding that HIV risk is reduced) saying that he was circumcised and HIV+.

So I tend to ignore anecdotes and look at the scientific research instead.

Simply because indeed you are freaks...

CIRCUMCISION IS VERY BENEFICIAL, its cleaner, healthier and several prestigious research institutions have proved that circumcised men have less risk of contracting STD's such as AIDS-HIV, syphilis or herpes.

Uncircumcised penises are difficult to keep clean, and more prone to infections and penile cancer, studies have shown.
A circumcised penis is naturally clean and virtually free from urinary infections. You will not have to worry again with careful washing of your penis.

About STD's:

As I said, several studies carried out by prestigious research bodies have proved that uncircumcised penises are more prone to infections and contraction of STD's, including AIDS-HIV. It has been confirmed that circumcised men are up to 70% less likely to be infected than those who are uncircumcised. Have a look at this site: http://www.torontodailynews.com/index.php/HealthNews/2006121404Circumcision

As for women, studies also show that circumcision also protects female partners from AIDS-HIV and other STD's. Browse this article: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/02_08_06.html

About sensitivity of a circumcised penis:

NO medical or physiological study has ever shown that circumcision reduces sensitivity, opposed to common belief. It is completely FALSE that circumcision reduces penis sensitivity. The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) confirms this on their web site; have a look at: http://www.aap.org/pubed/zzzjzmemh4c.htm

Circumcision is an easy and nowadays *painless* procedure, which has many benefits, and virtually no risks.
Circumcision is NOT an amputation. Circumcision is NOT comparable at all to female circumcision, which is something completely different.

Circumcision rates are INCREASING nowadays, both in the United States and overseas. Many African, Asian and Latin American countries with little circumcision tradition are starting to promote the procedure to help to reduce the AIDS-HIV infection rates.

Finally, this site has a lot of useful and *unbiased* information. Make sure you have a good look: http://www.circinfo.net
