When Norton finds a virus or something dangerous on your computer. It quarantines it, meaning the program is not allowed to run. You can go to the Quarantine and remove the files. It will totally get rid of them from your computer.

Quarantine means, it keeps that dangerous file from spreading all around your computer and it quarantines beucause norton cant fix the file but only remove it, but by removing that program file, the whole program may no longer work.

quarantine is nothing but healing or curing the infected file
if your file on your machine is infected with virus
then norton finds tat the file has infected with virus
then it ll ask for quarantine
it means its asking as shall i heal the file
and it also gives risk warning as of deleting the file
it means the file cannot be healed and to be deleted..

It takes the infected file out of your system and basically isolates it from the rest of the computer where it cannot do any more harm. Its kind of like taking a stinky sock and placing it in a container and puting it outside. I hope that visual representaion helped a little on your understanding of what it does...

It puts it in a closet, away from the other programs, because it didn't play nice. It is not totally gone, just tucked away, should you find out you may need it later.
