The cable are attached to the top left and right corners of the 20 kg mass and at a 40 degree angle the the horizontal.

You need to define the angle with respect to the horizontal or the vertical. What is a 40 degree angle with the mass?

If the angle is with respect to the horizontal, T = mg/2 sin(40)

If with the vertical, then T = mg/2 cos(40)
