Since this forum is anonymous I expect answers to be brutally truthful. So what do you think about African Americans who straighten their hair or wear straight wigs? Do you think its cool or silly?

I think you are a person, and that is what really matters.

I do not think that wearing a wig or straightening your hair looks silly if you want to do it - any more than I think curling mine would look silly. (well, ok, so I have a kinda round face, so maybe it would)

Be happy with who you are, and know that you are loved for who you are. If you want to straighten your hair, do it. If you want to have an Afro, do it. If you want to shave your head, do it. First and foremost though, believe in yourself.

Kindest thoughts,

I'm so used to seeing weaves these days that I am surprised when I see someone with their natural hair! Some people look great with it natural, especially wheb they have the personality to match and others look good with a weave. I am a white chick in NZ ans I have the same kind of kink to my hair, not that natural beautiful ringlet curl but it kinks, often stangely. I used to hate it and always want it straightened but at 27 I'm finally comfortable with it. It does seem silly sometimes for these beautiful women to be hiding their hair under an unnatural looking wig but each to their own. As long as you feel comfortable and happy with yourself, others opinions do not matter. Happy New Year.

It depends on the person. As far as hair goes, it doesn't really matter what race you are for straightening or curling your hair. Some people look good with it, some look silly. Straight or curly, the one thing that I honestly think is that it's really weird when African Americans have bleach blonde hair. Same with the Japanese (I think they call them something with a G? I can't remember.) who try to look like they're California girls or something by using tanning stuff that makes their skin look orange, and having bleach blonde hair. It creeps me out.

I don't think it's silly, it's a fashion thing, I have straight hair and I still straighten it lol, it just goes a bit kinky sometimes. White people go and get a tan, that's silly because sunbeds do so much damage to your skin. Everybody does things to their hair, people always try new styles or make it curly. The affro is nice too. But at the end of the day it's just hair, it doesn't bother me.

I don't know...sometimes straightened Afro American hair can look really awful...but othertimes great.. I think it really depends on how much effort ( and possibly money) is put into it. I don't think that there is anything wrong with kinky hair in the first place...and straightening it is just a form of fashion..And to my way of thinking fashion was always meant to be fun. I'm blond...but I've been known to highlight my hair even blonder..same thing:)

I am a fourth black, but I don't have the African stereotypical hair... I did when I was little. Now I have more Caucasian hair.
I thing straight wigs are silly.... Natural, straight hair is alright, depending on the person.

i'm not offended actual at the start. I evaluate the source and the point of the messenger. i became taught and actually join "in case you don't recover from human beings you will never make it". there's a "large" difference inspite of the shown fact that between being publicly and privately humiliated (do not enable all and sundry misinform you and inform you different). And professionally you will desire to continuously evaluate if what you're saying could be seen offensive (not basically on your acquaintances. your acquaintances could pratically enable you destroy out with something as long because it is not in direction of them). you will desire to continuously remember the Golden Rule. some human beings artwork in unorthodox professions and characteristic extra of a curve, yet you will desire to be extra conscious. God made my hair i think of it somewhat is eye-catching, i think of that i'm eye-catching. i don't think of that on the instant hair at once potential quite and definately not "sturdy". what's incorrect with being different? not something. somebody has on the instant hair. somebody has nappy or shall I say coarse hair, somebody would not have any hair. So what? The "nappy hair" basically isn't the difficulty. i've got faith the worldwide is evolving and as people who somewhat carry existence from one decade to the subsequent shop status we can all get alongside and overlook approximately race yet i'm specific we can locate something else to argue approximately $$$$$ :-) What I mean via the money indicators of direction is funds. i've got faith there will be a time while race would not rely basically how lots funds you have.

I think that it's personal choice, but if they straigthen it thinking that white type hair or straight hair is the only beautiful hair, they are being prejudice against themselves.

I've seen beautiful nappy hair and ugly nappy hair. My friend in high school, who is black, she used a touch of real olive oil rubbed in her hands and them into her hair, her hair was soft and beautiful, but still had a very tight curl. I used Infusium 23 in my friends four girls hair and it made their nappy hair manageable and beautiful, but not straight.

I find it sad that everyone wants to look exactly a like, have straight hair, be a size 2, be white or at least light skined, etc.,

If our Father in Heaven and Jesus wanted us to look alike, they easily could have made us all look basically a like and wouldn't that have been boring.

I have fly away hair, it changes colors all the time without dying it and it's basically straight and won't perm anymore. I use to like a medium perm, because it gave me body and I could do more with it. I've come to accept it's basically pony tail hair and I don't worry about it. It is what it is.

Chose the how your hair is based upon what you like, not what the world likes or you are going to have to change your hair every few months to keep up with social whims.

my friend is ethiopian. she has curly hair, not necessarily kinky as american black women. but when she straightens it, it's beautiful. she's beautiful. even when it's not straight she's gorgeous. one day i even asked her if i could touch her hair because I've never touched black people's hair before. it was straight at the time. but it didn't really feel different from my hair and I'm white. i think on some black women, straightening their hair or wearing extensions look really good on them. Other's their hair looks really good on it's own. I just wish white women could get away with wearing extensions.
